Grapes & Raisins
Can cause sudden kidney failure.
Even small amounts can be fatal. Signs include vomiting and lethargy.
Chocolate
Contains theobromine which is toxic.
Dark chocolate and baking chocolate are most dangerous.
Onions & Garlic
Causes oxidative damage to red blood cells.
Can lead to anemia. All forms (cooked, raw, powder) are harmful.
Xylitol (Sweetener)
Causes rapid insulin release.
Found in sugar-free gum, peanut butter, and baked goods. Extremely dangerous.
Macadamia Nuts
Causes weakness, tremors, and hyperthermia.
Usually temporary but distressing symptoms occur within 12 hours.
Avocado
Contains persin, which can cause digestive upset.
The pit is also a choking hazard and contains higher concentrations.
Dairy Products
Most pets are lactose intolerant.
Causes diarrhea and GI distress. Small amounts might be okay for some.
Apples (Seeds)
Seeds contain cyanide.
Flesh is fine, but seeds should be removed before feeding.
Cooked Bones
Can splinter and cause internal injuries.
Cooked bones become brittle and can puncture the digestive tract.
Alcohol
Even small amounts can cause serious harm.
Pets are much more sensitive to alcohol than humans. Beer, wine, and liquor are all dangerous.
Caffeine
Stimulant that can cause heart problems.
Found in coffee, tea, energy drinks, and some medications.
